Remote tuning is a convenient and effective way to get your car tuned to its full potential when you aren't close enough for an in person dyno tune.
This page will illustrate some of the finer points of the remote tuning process and address some common questions.
Purchasing your remote tune:
Our website has two primary options for remote tuning under the tuning services tab. For ALL 2003-2008 Nissan/Infiniti cars, you will need to click on "UpRev Tuning". For 2009 and newer Nissan/Infiniti cars, you will need to select "ECUTEK Tuning". You will select the options that apply to you from the drop-down menus and then add to cart.
Once your remote tune is purchased you need to send a text message to the scheduling line to schedule an appointment for your remote tune. You MUST reply to the text to confirm your appointment. If you do not respond to the text you will not be scheduled. If you are a customer outside of the USA, please email us and scheduling will be facilitated that way.

Here are our videos about how remote tuning works:How AdminTuning UpRev remote tuning works.
How AdminTuning ECUTEK remote tuning works.
Preparing the car before tune day:
Before your scheduled remote tune appointment we ask that you change your oil and your spark plugs. For the VQ35DE engines we recommend the NGK 3672 spark plug. For the HR, VHR, and VR38 engines we suggest the OEM GTR spark plug. For the VR30DDTT engines, please contact your Infiniti dealer for spark plugs. For oil we recommend using Rotella T6 5W40.
For NA cars, please set the gap to 0.030”. For turbo, supercharged and nitrous cars, a gap of 0.020” is recommended.
We DO NOT recommend using Bosch injectors on the VHR but they will work fine for the HR and DE.
If you want to tune for E85 you will need to upgrade your fuel injectors and your fuel pump. We recommend using our AdminTuning E85 Conversion Kit. On tune day, you will need a quarter tank of premium fuel in the car to get begin the tuning process. You can drive the car after installing the pump and Admin 650 injectors. Once we have finished tuning the car for pump gas, we will instruct you on when to fill it with E85.
If you have short ram intakes installed, we recommend putting your stock airboxes back on or getting long tube intakes. Short ram intakes flow less air and are not able to cool the air sufficiently before it reaches the throttle body. Stock air boxes are proven to make more power and be more consistent than short rams.
Receiving your remote tuning kit in the mail:
If you order the full UpRev remote tuning package you will receive a cable. If you order the full ECUTEK remote tuning package you will receive a cable and USB key. Instructions will be given at the time of the remote tune, so no action is required when you receive your hardware. Do not attempt installing the software on your own. We provide specific instructions on software installation and retrieving the information required to complete your tune at the time of the appointment.
If you order the license and tune only, OR the tune only, you will not receive any hardware in the mail. These items are 100% software only. If you are using ECUTEK, you will need to make sure you have the DESKEY USB KEY in addition to the cable if you are only planning on ordering the license and tune, or tune alone, from us.
At the time of your appointment:
At your scheduled appointment time you will receive specific instructions on how to begin your tuning session. Please also check the oil level before you begin the tuning process.
UpRev: You will receive an email instructing you on how to download the software, how to save a license report, and taking a picture of the UpRev screen to confirm the vehicle's ECU part number.
ECUTEK: You will receive an email instructing you on downloading the AppDownloader, which will allow us to register the dongle. Do NOT attempt to download ProECU immediately, please follow the instructions closely and you will be given the go ahead to download ProECU after the dongle is registered.
Please also make sure the following items are available to you before your tune appointment:
- Windows10 laptop
- Premium fuel (91 or 93 octane depending on your area unless otherwise agreed upon before your tune is scheduled)
During your remote tune:
During your remote tune, you will be given specific instructions on uploading tune revisions and performing datalogs. Please pay close attention to these instructions as you will need to perform every step. If you skip steps, the tune will not complete successfully.
What to expect during the tuning process:
During our scheduled remote tunes, we are typically tuning multiple cars at one time. Because of this, it may take up to 30 minutes to receive a basemap (initial tune), or revisions after you have submitted a datalog. Please keep this in mind when using your laptop or leaving your car on. It is OK to turn your car off in between revisions or logs to conserve the car's and the laptop's battery. When performing the datalogging instructions provided to you, please ONLY do 1 full throttle pull unless explicitly stated otherwise. Also, keep in mind that we respond to emails in the order of oldest to newest, so if you are sending multiple emails you will be bumped to the end of the queue.
Common mistakes when attempting to remote tune:
-Attempting to download ProECU when the instructions state only to send dongle information.
- Not checking the correct logging parameters that are included in the instructions.
- Not doing a full full throttle pull when instructed (this is common when the client pushes the gas about halfway and submits the logs).
- Breaking up datalogs into individual recordings when the instructions state to do all logs on one recording.
- Creating new email threads instead of replying to the current email thread.
- Being on the wrong map when doing E85 tunes.
- Not including the picture of the UpRev screen to accompany the license report.
